Résumé (en anglais)
This article synthesizes the results of research conducted in Montréal on the forms taken by cultural vitality in neighborhoods and on the range of issues raised by the implementation and promotion of cultural activities as a means of local development. It explores the potential of neighborhood cultural practices to build inclusive living environments and cultural commons. The article seeks to go beyond the traditional debates on the attractiveness and competitiveness of cities, including the discussion on the creative classes, by raising the question of the cultural commons and the place of local culture amidst the profound transformation of urban governance.
